One of the common problems of the bride- and groom-to-be during the wedding preparations is choosing the wedding attire for the wedding party, especially for the groom and his groomsmen. Traditional weddings have always seen that the groom and his groomsmen wear the same style suits, colors and accessories. That is why is has always been confusing to distinguish the groom from the rest of the wedding party.

To make certain that the groom stands out from the rest during during his wedding day, slight improvements have been carefully thought of. One alternative is for groomsmen to wear suits in one colour like black while the groom wear wedding suits of different colour such as white. However, it is still best that all the groomsmen wear one style of suits whether double breasted or single breasted, one-button, two button or three button, two piece or three piece suits, notched lapel or peaked lapel. The groom is free to wear the suit that best complements his unique physique as long as it does not go below the level of formality of the occasion. Ultra formal suits call for white ties, white vests and full dresses. Formal and semi formal suits are sometimes dark suits and ties, while casual suits do not always require ties.

Another alternative is to let the groomsmen wear with their suits vests or ties the colour of the bridesmaids dresses, or at least matching them, while the groom sports a mini corsage or boutonniere. There are many other ways by which the groom can stand out during his special day but important considerations that should be remembered are the formality of the occasion, time of the wedding, the weather, the theme of the wedding and the color of the rest of the wedding party. It will not do good for the groom or his groomsmen to wear black suits in the middle of a sweltering hot summer day, or for the bridesmaids and the groomsmen to be wearing mismatching colours.
